Hometown: Bryan, TX
Education: I am a sophomore in college, currently enrolled at Blinn College studying Kinesiology, hoping one day to become a practitioner specializing in children prosthetics.
Ministry Background: I became involved with the church during my sophomore year in high school, where I was staffing retreats as well as participating in them. My involvement carried on throughout my high school years, however, the highlight has been staffing the annual summer camp, Camp BASIC. The past two years have helped guide me to becoming a missionary with Ablaze.
Passions and interests: One thing I am passionate about is listening & talking to people, hearing stories of their past and what interests them. I especially enjoy learning new things about history and most importantly about the world God has created for us. Some of my favorite things are soccer and my new found hobby, hiking. I love watching soccer and playing soccer because the sport is pure & beautiful, and it brings the world together. Teams, players, and people that don’t know how to speak the same language come together and speak the language of soccer & friendly competition. I also love to travel, to see God’s creation, the chance to meet people, try new foods, and learn about their culture.
How did you become involved with Ablaze/why are you involved? The past couple of years ,it felt like I was stuck in an elevator, only going up and down. My spiritual life suffered through these ups & downs, as I put myself in the driver seat and God in the backseat.
However, the past two years I helped Ablaze at Camp BASIC, and I had more fun than the kids! Through the week, I felt like I was drawn and called for something more. Staffing those camps opened a door for me to take the next step into becoming a great Catholic & serving the Church.
Favorite quote/Bible verse:
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
“To persevere, I think, is important for everybody. Don’t give up, don’t give in. There’s always an answer to everything.”
“It’s a beautiful day to save lives.”
“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.”
―Matthew 18: 12-13
