Ministry at Ablaze: Middle school at St. Anthony’s in Bryan

Ministry background: When I was in 8th grade, my parents forced me to go on my first retreat, and of course, they had the right answer.  My life changed from that moment on.  That very next year, I was lucky enough to be on team for the same retreat, and even helped lead on three more.  I loved being able to minister to people my age as well as the adults that joined us.  During my sophomore year of high school, I began to teach myself guitar, getting some help from my amazing music minister back home.  Through her example, I learned how to lead worship, not just music.

I began leading music at Mass and on retreats, while continuing to give my personal testimony and other talks.  I lead on a few Archdiocesan retreats and conferences, and also attended a few national conferences.  After I graduated, during the summer of 2014, I attended the Steubenville conference, and realized that God was calling me to a life as a minister. There was only one problem:  I had no idea how to do that.  I had only lead under the supervision of others in high school, and I certainly didn’t know what to expect at college.

I knew that I wanted to go to A&M and that more than 15,000 students there are Catholic, but I still had no idea how to go about my mission.  So I went on a retreat and found out about all of the wonderful ministry opportunities St. Mary’s had to offer.  I got involved in a few organizations and truly grew a love for young adult ministry.  Since then, I have helped out my home parish by leading music for their retreats, as well as lead daily Mass at St. Mary’s.  I am currently working toward my degree so I can grow further in ministry.

Passions and interests: Playing guitar and piano, singing, listening to music, learning about Mary, painting, hammocking, binge-watching shows on Netflix, going to hipster coffee shops, and watching videos of llamas

Why I’m at Ablaze: Like it says above, I am in school to become a youth minister.  When I visited A&M, I knew I didn’t want to go to any other university.  However, A&M does not offer a ministry or theology major.  This made me consider leaving the school to pursue ministry as well as music.  Right after I started looking at other schools, I met an amazing person who told me all about Ablaze and what its mission was and why they formed.  I realized that God wasn’t done with my journey here, and after a lot of prayer and discernment, decided to apply.  I am now happily employed by possibly the greatest organization in town!

Favorite quotes/Bible verses:

Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes.  For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.
-Proverbs 3:25-26

People are made for happiness.  Rightly, then, you thirst for happiness.  Christ has the answer to this desire of yours.  But He asks you to trust Him.
