Hometown: Bryan, TX

Education: I graduated from Bryan High School in 2012 and am now pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences, specializing in youth development, at Texas A&M University.

Ministry Background: I grew up involved with St. Joseph’s youth ministry programs—from attending retreats, to staffing retreats, to having the opportunity to participate in Discipleship Week, run by NET ministries, for 3 years.

Eighth grade posed a particularly unique experience in my Confirmation retreat. I loved my Confirmation retreat, for many reasons, but two in particular: this is where I truly experienced Christ in the Eucharist, and also where I made the realization that this particular sacrament was my choice. This was my choice, independently and freely, to choose a life lived for Christ.

Since then, I have found so much sacrificial joy in ministry—especially within music ministry at St. Mary’s Catholic Center, which I have been blessed to do since my freshman year at A&M. Through St. Mary’s and the fellowship found there, I have fallen in love with Eucharistic Adoration and have realized how much of a gift holy friendships are. I would love to portray these essential aspects to all youth, especially through such a beautiful sacrament as Confirmation.

Passions and interests: I really love to sing…this is probably my absolute favorite hobby! I also really love anything that has to do with being outside—whether that be going on walks or playing soccer with friends. The beach is, hands down, my favorite place in the entire world and I take any chance I get for even just a day-trip to Surfside. I have two of the most beautiful, holy best friends so these things usually happen with the two of them which is, no doubt, the biggest gift God could have given me during my college years.

How did you become involved with Ablaze/why are you involved? Growing up in Bryan, Texas and going to St. Joseph, I had the opportunity to get to know Matt Rice and a few of the other staff members who led retreats and youth nights for me during my involvement in the youth ministry program. Since then, I have become really great friends with other staff members, which really opened doors to the possibility of working with Ablaze Ministries.

I started looking more intentionally at this ministry organization when a position opened up for a Confirmation Coordinator. I have always had a passion for Confirmation and this huge step in the faith life. This sacrament has been, so far, my most memorable and impactful experience and I am beyond excited to share this gift we’ve been given with youth around the area.

Favorite quotes/Bible verses:

“Be not afraid to tell Jesus that you love Him; even though it be without feeling, this is the way to oblige Him to help you, and carry you like a little child too feeble to walk.”
—St. Therese of Lisieux

“I prefer the monotony of obscure sacrifices to all ecstasies. To pick up a pin for love can convert a soul.”
—St. Therese of Lisieux

“When you approach the Tabernacle remember that He has been awaiting you for twenty centuries.”
—St. Josemaria Escriva

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
—Romans 8:26-27
